The Retail Landscape

Walmart has helped in reshaping retail industry as well as the physical landscape. As we Americans began to demand more selection, bigger stores were needed to compensate for the infinitely growing amount of stuff. This caused Walmart to start building bigger stores on the outskirts of towns and the suburbs of large cities because they were too big to build in the cities and towns. These "big box" stores thus became the symbols that now dominate the American landscape. Now, almost 90 percent of America's population lives within fifteen miles of Walmart.
